Advancing Cooperation Between the UN and World's Religions
The world's religious communities are committed to advancing peace with justice – a commitment that coincides with many areas of the United Nations (UN) agenda. Religions for Peace believes the time is ripe to foster further cooperation between the world’s religious communities and the UN. This was why Religions for Peace International, together with Religions for Peace Korea and its International Peace Corps of Religions program organized a one-day conference entitled ‘Advancing cooperation between the UN and world’s religions’ on December 16, 2008.
The conference brought together 120 religious leaders, UN officials and representatives from Permanent Missions, and set out to achieve the following three objectives:
- To advance the value of multi-religious cooperation in pursuing peace, development and human rights.
- To note existing cooperation and dialogue between the world's religious communities and the UN.
- To explore new ways and means to advance cooperation between the world's religious communities and the UN, in particular multi-religious approaches.
To read a summary of the presentations and discussion, as well as view the program and list of speakers please see the conference report below. The full texts of most of the panelists’ speeches are also available for download from this page.
